Just enter the user name as Administrator and hit enter. Now enter net user and then hit enter. It will show all users on this machine. I have the exact same issue! I installed the Windows XP Mode and was never even prompted for a password during installation.

It actually asks for the password when setting up the VM -- it doesn't default to the host's password Did not work for me. There are come tools used to reset windows user password.
